The coastal forest has a particular frequency that I am drawn to. Maybe it’s the mist that dampens the sound of waves crashing below, yet enhances the sound of il cuore (my heart) beating in my chest. Maybe it’s the smell that permeates my being and tells stories of life and death. Maybe it’s the touch of wet ferns on my hands as I walk along the trail.
Knowing these trees have been here for hundreds of years, covered in moss (many types of moss), and knowing they’ll be here for hundreds more, well after I am gone… it is comforting and grounding. It makes me feel like I am tapping into a connection with the earth which I truly desire. This time spent in the forest, with fully immersed senses, gives rise to an energetic feeling from within, and emanates outwards. At the same time, I’m fully open to receiving the energy of the world around me.
This is unlike any other part of my daily life. Unmistakable, yet also unexplainable. Whatever it is, I know deep down that I yearn to spend more time here because it resets my mind, invigorates my spirit, and brings me joy.
